v o i c e ] [ 001

Bugger.

[ A pause because, oh, yes, that would be the button that turns the blasted thing on. Well... we can only hope that there is a delay between Yusuf's annoyed mouthing off at the little piece of technology and it actually turning on. He's holding it much too close to his mouth and, as such, his voice is unaccountably loud for the calm way he asks, ]

If anyone can hear me, would you be so kind as to let me know?

[ The sound of the device being turned over and over in his hands. Hopefully he won't accidentally click it off... ]

Honestly... this is hardly intuitive...

[ ooc: new, fresh meat, etc. not cursed, just confused! ]

Our control in the dream is severely limited.

[ Understatement. ]

That much is apparent...

[ Yusuf isn't much of a dreamer, but he isn't a novice to the theories. Someone has to build and populate the dream, but once inside, you have a certain amount of wiggle room. Yusuf wouldn't have to use bloody throwing stars if he would feel more comfortable using a handgun. Same goes for style of mobile. Yusuf would never dream himself up something so... bothersome. ]

Would you explain, at least, why I was dreamt so far away from you all? This isn't exactly conducive to... [ Yusuf cannot exactly remember why he's here... so he lets the question ask itself in his silence. ]

That is something we still haven't found out. Certain rules the dreams we've experienced answer to don't apply, dying for example; the mechanics of this dream make it so that you don't wake up and you don't drop into limbo. Any failsafe you might have designed to double-check your reality isn't reliable here and 'here' has no name beyond 'the City'. A sci-fi/fantasy textbook nightmare or dream come-true, there are people running around here from all kinds of fiction - the most complicated projections I've ever seen.

Eames will explain more once he finds you but the most efficient way to tell you whatever else you end up wanting to know will be Q&A, with both of us.

I suppose I should curb any urges to impale myself on the gilded unicorn horn...

[ The voice on the other end of his... device, certainly sounds like Arthur. Smart, to the point, all bases covered even though the questions weren't explicitly asked, but he's making it sound like this isn't a dream of their making. In fact, he seems to be implying that they aren't in control of the dream, and that is just nonsense. Dreams are regulated through the PASIV and the mind that lays the foundation-- the team builds the dream, and whoever their mark is, fills it with their subconscious. There is no point in which they should be out of control... ]

Yes, well, whenever prince sticky fingers decides to saunter his way over here. Or madame Maxim and her entourage of bosom-- do you know which form he's wearing? [ Not that it really matters. Between wherever Arthur is and wherever the bloody hell Yusuf is (sodding extra dream space...), Eames could be slipping in and out of faces willy nilly. ]

I'm sure the unicorn appreciates it.

[ There are a dozen or a hundred other things Arthur avoids going into, thinking those the sorts to be better explained in person insofar as they even can explain - not nearly so much as he would like, and that's been true since day one.

Yusuf's inquiry on form however makes him frown deeper on his side of things, though he remains strictly committed to text responses.

Prince sticky fingers? His mouth curves upward for a second, amused by that and the second pseudonym as well. It occurs to him not for the first time that he has little to no knowledge on Yusuf's prior affiliation with Eames. Well.
]

He looks like himself. That's another one of the inconsistencies [ one of many....to the point where Arthur should know it's not a dream but he can't believe it possible of being anything else, so a dream it is - influenced by some new sort of amending sedative or otherwise, perhaps facilitated by another technology for all they know (for all they don't know) ] that we're dealing with. He can't forge.

[ Explaining the way he could but only in form and not in voice the past 48 hours is too confusing for a new arrival, or so Arthur deems it, so he keeps that to himself. ]

The unicorn's loss.

[ As much as Yusuf is wont to joke (and it is a joke, Yusuf is not a fan of messy deaths in dreams, and impaling has very little positive connotation when it is at the mercy of a snarling mythical horse-- or otherwise), Arthur's admission is worrisome. He can only assume if he's under with them, that they're using one of his compounds. If Eames can't forge then there is something very, very wrong with the mixture. Everything seems per usual as far as dream mechanics go, with the exception of Yusuf not being able to remember... exactly how he got here, but that might be an imbalance of hydroxyl groups. So long as there isn't any additional oxidation going on, they should be fine until the timer runs out.

It can't be that long, surely.
]

That is unfortunate to hear. I will have to look into that. Surely it only requires a little tweak. Though... [ Yusuf sighs, frustrated at drawing such a massive blank. He is almost positive that he hasn't seen Eames in two weeks, and Arthur in much longer; but that doesn't make any sense, now does it? Too cheerfully to be entirely appropriate, Yusuf shrugs. ] This is very confusing. Hopefully I am not giving us all ethanol poisoning.

More than a tweak, I think, but that's your area and we haven't been able to ask you until now, so with any luck, we'll find out.

[ One tweak or twenty, a small or large one, Arthur is picky only about the accuracy of said tweaks but that of course means everything. It's hardly worth commenting on when the table remains empty for the moment anyway however so he sends the next message through voice instead with a mild, more usual sort of humor - dry but not falsified. ]

Hopefully not. Poisoning might be the least of our worries though. Eames's been here longer. He say how far he is from you?

[ Yusuf would beg to differ-- poisoning is a very real and kind of horrible way to die (especially when you consider the compounded time down in a dream, that agony could go on for ages before your mind finally gave out)-- but he sees no reason to voice his opinion. Really, what good will it do them if he is? ]

No, just that he is on his way. I suppose you will know when he arrives just as soon as I do. [ Because the device is on, picking up the sound of whatever Arthur is doing on the other side, so the same must be true for the noises around the chemist. ]
